The London Academy of Excellence Tottenham sits beside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a building designed to support openness, clarity and flexibility – qualities that continue to shape how the school is experienced day-to-day by students and staff alike.
Rather than focusing purely on the architecture itself, this short film offers a glimpse into life within the building through the voices of the people who use it most. Teachers, students and staff reflect on the culture of the school, the opportunities it creates and the role the environment plays in supporting learning, creativity and community.
Designing for everyday experience
Educational buildings are rarely defined by a single moment. Their success is measured over time – through adaptability, interaction, wellbeing and the countless small ways people occupy and move through them each day.
At LAE Tottenham, the aim was to create a calm and flexible environment capable of supporting both focused learning and wider social connection. Natural light, openness and carefully considered circulation all contribute to spaces that feel welcoming, collaborative and easy to navigate.
Architecture shaped around people
What makes the film particularly rewarding is hearing directly from those who experience the building every day. Their reflections reveal how architecture quietly shapes atmosphere, confidence and interaction in ways that are not always immediately visible in drawings or photographs.
As architects, it is often these longer-term responses that matter most.
“Gives a snippet of insight into the impact of all your work last year! Music in particular has transformed the school in so many positive ways.”
Paul Martin, Business Director, London Academy of Excellence, Tottenham
