Great architecture doesn’t stop at design. It’s delivered through detail, guided through construction, and improved through ongoing learning.

At LBY, our expertise spans the full lifecycle of a project, from initial briefing and concept design to detailed planning, precise technical delivery, and comprehensive post-occupancy reviews.

We combine creative insight with technical confidence, steering projects through complex approvals and on-site delivery to ensure the architectural vision translates into details, specifications and ultimately buildings that provide lasting quality. We constantly learn from our built work, feeding this knowledge back into future projects and our work for the Government on industry standards.

Briefing and Concepts

We have extensive experience in developing clear, robust briefs for both commercial and Government clients that set projects up for success. Our collaborative approach includes detailed stakeholder engagement, from client workshops to public consultations, ensuring briefs genuinely reflect user needs and aspirations.

Olympic Delivery, London

For our infrastructure projects in London for the Olympic Delivery we spent time to fully understand the engineering our buildings would house and to develop a brief to allow them to fit beautifully with the technical requirements.

Department for Education

Similarly, our advisory work for the Department for Education has produced detailed accommodation schedules and concept designs for over 100 schools, many of which have closely followed our original briefing and design frameworks to successful completion.

Design Development & Planning

Navigating the planning process successfully requires clarity, consistency, and extensive experience. Our directors have a proven track record, achieving planning approval on every single project we've submitted.

Listed Buildings

Our expertise spans not only award-winning new build schemes, but also sensitive refurbishments and expansions of listed buildings, such as the Goldsmiths’ Centre in Clerkenwell, and complex regeneration schemes like Mountbatten House in Chatham, which required extensive community engagement and stakeholder consultation.

Technical Design & Construction

We know how to translate great designs into high-quality buildings. Our deep technical knowledge is built upon years of delivering projects across multiple sectors and contract types, from design-and-build to traditional construction contracts, where our detailed technical design and on-site inspections are critical.

Hammersmith Pumping Station

Our residential and mixed-use developments, including major projects for St James Homes at the former Hammersmith Pumping Station and Medway Developments in Chatham, showcase our ability to tackle complex technical challenges involving new-build and careful adaptations of listed structures.

Moulton College, Northampton

We have also successfully led multidisciplinary design teams at Moulton College in Northampton, coordinating new-build projects across various contract types, including Traditional and Design-and-Build, acting both as Lead Consultant and Contract Administrator.

Post-Occupancy Review

We believe the best architects are those who continually learn. Every completed building offers valuable lessons, and our extensive post-occupancy reviews allow us to continually refine our approach and enhance future designs. We are industry experts in the sectors we work in and regularly review the work of other practices, generating learning that we can draw on for our own clients.

Education Building Evaluations

In addition to assessing our own buildings, such as projects for Moulton College, London Academy of Excellence and the Goldsmiths’ Company, we have evaluated over 200 educational buildings by other architects. This work has positioned us as expert industry leaders, evidenced by our development of the Department for Education’s Building Performance Evaluation template.

Principal Designer Role

Safety and responsibility are integral to our design approach. As Principal Designers, we carefully consider construction, operation, and maintenance risks, embedding safety into every design decision.

Principal Designer Projects

We are able provide Principal Designer services across our projects, recently undertaking this role for clients including Matchroom Sport, London Academy of Excellence in Tottenham, and the Goldsmiths’ Company, ensuring compliance and safety from concept through completion.
