John Lyall – Director
John established his reputation as an innovative young architect in the 1980’s with a number of landmark projects at home and abroad. Trained at the Architectural Association, for most of his professional career he has combined running an award-winning practice with contributions to the education of architects by teaching and examining all over the world. Working for Cedric Price and Piano + Rogers lead to his forming the firm of Alsop & Lyall from which John Lyall Architects was created in 1991. In 2011 the practice was re-launched as Lyall, Bills and Young Architects. John Lyall is a registered Client Design Adviser and also serves as a Vice-Chair on Design Council CABE’s Design Review Panels. He also remains active in architectural eduaction.
John is a 'mover and a shaker'. He gets people around the table form different backgrounds to make projects happen. He has 'the big idea'.
Chris Bills – Director
Chris began working with John at the beginning of 2006. Previously he worked for leading residential and commercial practices for over fifteen years - including several years in Germany. Chris has extensive experience leading and co-ordinating the design team and guideing projects through planning to completion. Projects he has completed on site range from small refurbishments to large mixed-use schemes. He has extensive construction knowledge and site experience. Recently he has carried out the role of clientt design advisor on a number of educational projects.
Chris has a relaxed but pro-active appraoch to projects. He is very experienced in delivering projects and understands both client's and contractor's aspirations.
Neil Young - Director
Neil has been working in architectural practice for over 15 years and has worked with John since 2002. In this time he has gained experience in a range of sectors including residential, retail, office, schools and community projects. He has been responsible for projects up to a value of £10M and worked upon schemes with a value of over £60M. Neil has an expertise in education projects and has worked for the last five years on numerous education schemes.
Neil will produce an innovative solution to a difficult problem. Working his way through complicatd briefs, whilst mindful of budgets.
